Military Road construction deadlines updated

Construction cones and torn-up roads are familiar sights for people who have traveled Lower Military Road lately. With the construction comes the associated frustration of residents who do not feel progress is being made.
The inconvenience of drivers is compounded by the impact the construction has on businesses located along the roadway.
Lisa Spencer of Lisa's Bait Shop says the construction has been detrimental for her and her business. "It's killing it," she said.
"People can't even get to me," Spencer said.

Halloween celebration on tap Saturday

Ghosts and goblins and tigers and bears and all things in between will be lining the streets of Downtown Benton on Saturday night.
This is the time for the annual Spook City, a project of the Downtown Benton Association.
"The Wild Side," an entire block filled with animals, will be a highlight of this year's celebration, according to coordinator Lisa Baldwin.Activities will take place from 6 to 8 p.m.

Early voting process continuing in county

Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election, to date, has drawn a total of 5,778 voters in Saline County.
On Wednesday, 1, 917 voters cast their ballots at the three early voting sites. This included 986 in Benton, 514 in Bryant and 417 in the Lonsdale area.
On the first day, a total of 1,860 Saline County residents voted in the initial opportunity to cast ballots in advance of Election Day and 2,001 voted on the second day.

Monster Madness today at Mills Park

The Bryant Area Chamber of Commerce will host the ninth annual Monster Madness at Mills Park today, starting at 5:30 p.m. and continuing until dark.
"This started as a benefit for the Boys & Girls Club, but it is also a response to people asking for a community celebration for Halloween," said chamber Executive Director Rae Ann Fields. "This way, people don't have to go out into neighborhoods where they don't know anyone."

Sherrell Lynn Pedron

Sherrell Lynn Pedron, 83, of Benton passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, at Saline Memorial Hospital. He was born March 31, 1929 in Camden to the late Julius Andrew Pedron and Lora Bell (Rogers) Pedron. Pedron was a U.S. Navy Veteran of both WWII and the Korean War, a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Benton, and retiree from Alcoa, where he was an industrial mechanic. 

Patricia Ann Franklin

Patricia Ann Franklin, 55, of Conway died Thursday, Oct. 18, in Conway. She was born June 5, 1957, in Little Rock. Patricia was a Baptist.
She is survived by her mother, Doris Franklin, and father, Ralph Franklin, both of Benton; brother, Charles Christian, of Benton; sister and brother-in-law, Becky Wells and Randy, of Texas; niece, Sheryl Howerton, of Texas; nephew, Ryan Wells, of Texas; their families; and her extended family at Conway Human Development Center.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton.

Robbie Dewell Burleson

Robbie Dewell Burleson, 74, resident of Mesa, Ariz., entered into eternal life on Oct. 21. She was Born Oct. 1, 1938 to James Wilbourn and Carmon Mae Burleson in Benton.
After graduation from Chula Vista High School in California, Rob dutifully served his country in the Air Force for the next eight years including assignments in Turkey and Libya. He was a devout Christian and a devoted husband.
Above all, he cherished his role as a loving father, Papa and Great Papa. He enjoyed fishing and all things aviation. He had a passion for the Sun Devils and Razorback football.

Nita Fogleman Stephens

Nita Fogleman Stephens, 88, of Little Rock, died Oct. 23, at Four Seasons in Benton. She was born in Kaufman County, Texas, on Oct. 13, 1924, to the late Marvin and Katy Baker Fogleman. She was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Bryan Stephens; and sisters, Mildred Flanders of Longview, Texas, and Mary Kay Copeland of Garland, Texas.

Delbert C. Ballentine Jr.

Delbert C. "Babo" Ballentine Jr., 49, of Saline County passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 19.
He was born April 26, 1963, in Little Rock, to the late Delbert C. "Big Bo" Ballentine and Phyllis Townsend Ballentine.
Babo enjoyed Nascar races, the St. Louis Cardinals, listening to rock 'n' roll and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Ballentine and husband Brad Hubbard; a son, Anthony Ballentine; a grandson, Ashton Hubbard, who was his pride and joy; two sisters, Darla Massey and Angelia Mayfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Geraldine Willis

Geraldine Willis, 92, of Searcy, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 22. She was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Bauxite to John G. and Arkie Belle Rowland.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Willis; her parents; four sisters, Marie, Tincy, Whickett and Biddy; and three brothers, John B., Ed and Bobby.
