Charlie L. Whitt, 74, of Benton passed away on June 12.Â Charlie was born on July 9, 1937 to David and Betsy Whitt in Roland.Â He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.Â He will be missed by all his family and friends.
Charlie is preceded in death by his loving wife, Margie Whitt and his parents.
Wanda Sue Mansfield, 77, of Benton, died June 12.Â She was born September 23, 1935 in Bauxite to Bernard Arkel and Mary Jewel Brown.Â She graduated from Bauxite High School in 1953.Â In the fall, she entered Henderson State University where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.Â On July 31, 1955, she married James Ross Mansfield and together they moved to Norfolk, Virginia.Â While he served in the Navy, Wanda worked as a secretary at the naval base.Â In 1958, they returned to Arkansas and she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA).Â Her tea
Billy Gene Pennington, 74, of Little Rock, passed away June 10, 2012. He was a 1958 graduate of the Arkansas School for the Deaf, and volunteered at the schoolâ€™s Museum.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather and mother, Bill and Sibyl Dedman Terry and a sister, Mary Jo Martindale,
BRYANT â€“ The Bryant Sport Shop Black Sox Jr. team gave up two hits in defeating Hot Springs Village 5-2 on Wednesday night in Bryant.

Wise, a sophomore catcher who had entered the game as a defensive replacement, had a two-out RBI single in the top of the 10th and Suggs threw the final two innings in Arkansasâ€™ 1-0 victory over Baylor in the deciding game of their super regional Monday night.
After a great deal of discussion in a meeting late Tuesday, the Bryant Finance and Personnel Committee decided it will recommend that the City Council include an ordinance establishing an alcohol tax within the city of Bryant on the ballot for the general election in November.
According to Staff Attorney Chris Madison, a popular vote is not needed â€” only an ordinance; if the council approves the ordinance, it goes into effect under the guidelines of the Arkansas Municipal League.
Alderman Steve Gladden opened the discussion by asking how to get the issue on the ballot.
Benton Advertising and Promotion Commission has approved the final schematic design for the Benton Events Center that voters approved in a November 2011 election.
The center is to built in Hickory Square, the area that includes Tinseltown movie theater.
The final design for the facility was approved in a commission meeting Monday night.
Gary James, executive director of the Benton Area Chamber of Commerce, said the floor plan has been "slightly enlarged from the original design so as to accommodate 10-by-10-foot booths for vendor space."
Tamara Leanne Skaggs-Graves, 15, of Mabelvale passed away on June 8. She was born Dec. 12, 1996, in Little Rock.
She was a straight-A honor student at Bryant High School.
Tamara was very creative; she loved to draw, write short stories and reading. She also loved to hunt and fish.
Tamara was preceded in death by her grandfather, David E. Manson.
LITTLE ROCK â€“ The Bryant Senior Black Sox American Legion baseball team went to Little Rock to face the Express and came away with two 6-1 decisions in a doubleheader played at the University of Arkansas Little Rockâ€™s Gary Hogan Field on Tuesday night. The two wins pushed the Black Sox record to 5-0 on the season.
Saline Memorial Hospital, in collaboration from other local health professionals and stakeholders, is working on a "road map to health" for the people of Saline County, identifying public health needs, goals, objectives and priorities.
The hospital reportedly has launched a comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment that is intended to provide the foundation for improving and promoting the health of each community member.
