Michael Shawn Lynn

October 17, 2011

Michael Shawn Lynn, 38, of Benton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13.  He was born July 26, 1973, in Hot Springs to Spencer Lynn and Marsha Diane Chancellor Lynn.  Michael was an assistant manager for Crow Burlingame.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Burl Chancellor and Hazen Lynn; and his grandmothers, Bernice Burks and Eva Lynn.

Lady Panthers sweep Sheridan

The Benton Lady Panthers swept the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets Thursday night 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-18).
“We’ve had a good week,” coach Brandy Chumley said. “We played well against Texarkana and we played well again against Sheridan.”
In game one, junior Erin Jackson and senior Kristen Ryan had a block. The Lady Panthers had eight kills including four from senior Emily Morgan. Senior Hayley Ferguson had two and junior Alex Williams had one kill. Jackson also had a kill.
Junior Courtland Kaufholtz had an ace.

Lady Hornets build up team, beat Van Buren

After getting swept by Conway on Tuesday night to snap a six-game conference winning streak, the Bryant Lady Hornets' volleyball team responded with a sweep of their own, defeating the Van Buren Lady Pointers 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-8) Thursday night on the road.
"Last night was an amazing night for our girls," Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said. "We spent Wednesday doing team-building activities instead of really focusing on skills.
"After Conway Tuesday night, we realized that our girls needed some really strong team-bonding activities – they have the skills they need."

Bryant holds on for win

The Bryant Freshman Hornets football team defeated Little Rock Catholic Rockets’ freshman team 36-22 on Thursday at Bryant Stadium, but the game wasn’t without drama. Bryant remained undefeated improving to 7-0 record, but after getting up 22-0, Catholic charged back to tie it 22-22 before the half.
“They had a chance to beat us,” Bryant Coach Kenny Horn said. “Fortunately our guys came through at the end.”

Frances Marie (Bridges) Willard-Wolf

Frances Marie (Bridges) Willard-Wolf died Oct. 1 at the age of 92.  She was born April 7, 1919, in Little Rock, the daughter of John and Ella Bridges.
She was a resident of Morrilton, but for many years had lived in Haskell.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Clorola Willard, who was 5 when taken in a tragic accident.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Peggy Ann Moser of Las Vegas, N.V.; a daughter, Bobby Modean Frach-Stewart of Morrilton; a son, David Arthur Willard of Silverdale, Wash.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

Bauxite faces top ranked Pulaski Academy

The Bauxite Miners have hit a bit of a road block over the past five weeks. What seemed like a promising year in week one has turned into a nightmare over the course of only five games.
The Miners torched their arch rivals from Glen Rose at “The Pit” in week one, beating them 26-7. Since then, the Miners have been outscored 170-72 with their most recent loss coming last week at the hands of Robinson, 51-29.

Benton sweeps Texarkana

The Benton Lady Panther volleyball team swept Texarkana 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) Tuesday night to move into second place in the 6A South Conference.
“[Texarkana] is a very good team,” coach Brandy Chumley said. “But we played really well and we passed the ball well and played very well.”
In game one, Benton had 11 kills including six from junior Emily Morgan. Senior Hayley Ferguson had two, junior Alex Williams, senior Kristen Ryan and sophomore Allison Reynolds all had one kill.
Williams also had an ace.

Lee Roy Parson

Lee Roy Parson, 70, of Benton, passed away Tuesday Oct. 11, at Saline Memorial Hospital. He was born August 1, 1941 in Benton to the late Zack and Ida Greenlee Parson. He was a graduate of Bauxite High School and attended Quachita Baptist University. Mr. Parson was a retired logging contractor and maintenance lead at Rineco. He was of Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Armetha Ward and a brother, Etheridge Parson.

Mark Steven Yant

Mark Steven Yant, 53, of Benton died Sunday, October 9.  He was born on October 26, 1957 in Little Rock.  Mr. Yant was a beloved son, husband, father, and true friend.  In the early 1990’s, he worked as a union organizer for UFCW Local 1583/2008.  It was during this time he met his wife, Stephanie.  He organized three years while on a leave of absence from the Kroger Company, where he was employed for over 38 years.  Mr. Yant was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, golfer, Razorbacker supreme, and loved by all who knew him.

Joe Lee Joey Richards Jr.

Joe Lee Joey Richards Jr., 40, of Benton was found October 5, after he had been missing for a year. He was born June 15, 1971 in Benton. Joe was a construction worker, a US Army Veteran and attended Rose Hill Nazarene Church in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eileen Lou Richards, grandparents, Mick and Zella Richards, Samuel and Clara Goans.
