The Bryant Lady Hornets remained undefeated in the 7A/6A South conference with a sweep of the Lake Hamilton Lady Wolves on Tuesday night at the Bryant gym. The Lady Hornets won 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-14) and didn’t have a letdown after their rivalry match against Benton last week
“They played well,” Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said. “We had that big game at Benton Thursday night. They came back. I thought they played well. We had some moments that we weren’t at our peak.”

Caldwell retired teachers review Heifer Memorial project Tuesday

Several retired teachers from Caldwell Elementary School formally introduced a fundraising campaign Tuesday during two assemblies at the school.
The project will benefit Heifer International, a nonprofit, humanitarian organization that works to end hunger and poverty while caring for the land.
Heifer pursues its mission by providing livestock, seeds, trees and training in animal well-being and environmentally sound agricultural practices to families in more than 50 countries, including the United States.

10-time DWI offender gets another arrest

Benton resident Sheila Blair has been in and out of Saline County courtrooms, jail and prison since the mid-1990s with offenses including 10 DWI arrests, endangering the welfare of minor, filing a false police report and other crimes.

Father accused of shaking baby to death is not cooperating, authorities say

A Bryant man accused of shaking his 4-month-old baby to death has not been cooperative with detectives, authorities said.
Devin Dewayne Hunt, 23, is facing a charge of capital murder (which is applicable when a victim is 14 or younger and the defendant is 18 or older). As of press time, he is being held without bond in the Saline County jail . He is scheduled to appear via video feed for a bond hearing today in Benton District Court .

Irene Blenkinsopp Sanford

Irene Blenkinsopp Sanford, 84, of Avilla went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Saline Memorial Hospice House in Bryant.
She was born April 14, 1928, in Bigelow on Wye Mountain to the late Joseph Blenkinsopp and Merial DeRossi.
She was a nurse, a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.  She loved tending to her flower garden and fishing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Sanford; an infant daughter, Rebecca Sanford; one brother, Richard Blenkinsopp; and one half-sister, Mary Roy.

Matt Carter

Matt Carter, 29, of Alexander went to be with our Lord and Savior Sept. 22.  He was born July 19, 1983, to Edward Carter and Debra Duran in Benton.  Matt was a loving father, son and brother, who loved living his life to the fullest; he loved hunting, fishing, going to the lake and riding a 4-wheeler.  He was the owner and operator of County Line Pawn Shop.  Matt spent his final days surrounded by his family and his beautiful daughter.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Ocie Duran and Lewis Merlin Carter.

Floyd Dale Keisler

Floyd Dale Keisler, 75, was born Sept. 13, 1937, in Leola to the late Martin Ongelo Keisler and Lena Williams Keisler. The Lord called him home to heaven Sept. 24 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Floyd loved the Lord and was a dedicated Christian and a member of Forest Hills Missionary Baptist Church.
He attended Leola, White Hall and Pine Bluff schools.  He served in the Arkansas National Guard from Feb. 28, 1955, through Feb. 26, 1957. 

Dorothy Mae Sheridan

Dorothy Mae Sheridan, 83, of Mabelvale passed away peacefully on Sept. 24 at Ridgewood Health and Rehab in Benton.
Dorothy was born in Sardis on Jan. 12, 1929, to the late Lon and Rosa Whittenberg Jackson.
She was a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, was a homemaker, and in later years was a caregiver to many.  She liked to fish and spend time working in the garden.  She babysat for many children and made many friends doing her yard sales that she loved so much.

Bettye Lou Wade

Bettye Lou Wade, 68 of Mabelvale, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, in Little Rock.
She was born July 25, 1944, in Morton to the late John and Mary (Cain) Smith. Bettye was a generous, loving woman who lived a full life. She got no greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She was at every ball game and event they were involved in. Her passion was taking care of her family and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Warren Steward Smith

Warren Steward Smith, 94, of Haskell, passed from this life on Sunday, September 23.  He was born April 2, 1918 at Haskell to the late Henry Steward and Maude Belle Cornett Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church and a beloved member and life-long resident of the Haskell community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who loved spending time with his family and friends. Warren will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
