Anna Kate McDaniel Shoemaker, 87, died Sept. 29. She was a retired employee of Reynolds Metals Co. and a member of First Baptist Church of Bryant. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma McDaniel; and her husband, H. Holden Shoemaker.
The Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team swept the Cabot Lady Panthers 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) in 7A Central conference action on Tuesday night in Cabot. The Lady Hornets won their fifth consecutive conference match and improved to 9-3 overall with an 8-2 record in conference, good for second place behind Conway.
âWeâve got another win under us,â Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said. âThe girls played well tonight, but not as well as we could have.
âI think they were confident they would win tonight so they didnât come out and play as hard as they should have.â

Mary Frances Sims, 80, of Benton died Saturday Oct. 1, at her home. She was born March 8, 1931, to Mary and Avery Martin in Austin.
Mary Frances went through Little Rock Public Schools, graduating from Little Rock High School in 1948. She graduated from Little Rock Junior College in 1950. She was a member of Zeta Phi Sorority at UALR and sang in the college a cappella choir.
After graduating from UALR, she married Samuel Richard Sims Jr. They have been married for 60 years.
Abbie Rose Rauch Hollinger Cook, 79, of Bryant died Sunday, Oct. 2. She was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Little Rock.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holland Chapel Baptist Church for 45 years. Currently, she is a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Hazel Rauch; her first husband, James Hollinger; a daughter, Sandra Kay Hollinger King; and her brother, Johnny Rauch.
Anna Maria (Thompson) Henderson, 52, of Benton, departed this life and received the embrace of our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 28, after a long and valiant battle with colon cancer. She was surrounded by loving family at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock at the moment of peacefully passing into the next life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald D. Thompson and Estella L. Thompson; her paternal grandparents, George and Essie Thompson; and her maternal grandparents, Arley and Essie Hodgson. She was born on Dec.

This time last year, Glen Rose quarterback Collin Hunter had one of the best running backs in the state behind him with Steven Kehner. Having that âsafety blanketâ in the backfield gave Hunter a year to mature and become a leader for the Glen Rose Beavers without the added pressure of being a starting quarterback.
Friday night, it seemed to pay off as Hunter led the Glen Rose Beavers to a 35-0 win over undefeated Jessieville on the road.
âHe is growing up every week,â coach Mark Kehner said. âThis was probably his first big game with the pressure on him to make plays and lead us.â
September 30th
When the Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team went to Little Rock to play the Mount St. Mary Belles in early September at the McAuley Center, the Hornets lost to the Belles in four games due in large part to inconsistency.
On Thursday night, the Hornets revenged the loss to their rivals defeating them in four games â 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-17) â at home. The win gave Bryant its fourth 7A Central conference victory in a row and the Hornets are sitting comfortably in second place behind the Conway Lady Wampus Cats, which they play on Oct. 11 in Conway.
September 29th
The Benton Panther tennis team swept Texarkana in doubles competition Tuesday afternoon at Tyndall Park.
Benton seniors Ian McMahn and Dudley Stow defeated Texarkanaâs Flowers and Hemperley 8-6. Seniors Sam Anderson and Jake Jakonczuk defeated Texarkanaâs Brock and Gregory 8-2.
Seniors Nathan Perry and Clint Powell defeated Flowers and Hemperley 8-4.
In singles competition, senior Eric Emmons defeated Tanner McClean 8-4 while senior Austin Willis defeated Devonte Murphy 8-1.
Sophomore Trey Young lost to McClean 1-8.
Michael L. Wood, 61, of Benton, died on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Hospice Home in Bryant. He was born on January 23, 1950, son of Bernus and Marie Wood.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael is survived by three sons, Mark, Kelly and James Michael; daughter, Heather; life partner Janice Rogers; two sisters, Peggy Williams and husband, Stan of England, and Deborah Edmondson and Pete of Scott; and one nephew, Jason Martin and wife, Amber.
Graveside service will be Friday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. following the visitation.
September 28th
The Benton Lady Panther golf team finished as conference runner-up and fourth in state after a two-day tournament.
On the first day, Grace Lile shot an 89, Karli Lipinski shot a 104, Daphne Bono shot a 119, Kayla Payne shot a 104, Kaylen Presnall shot a 117 and Bentonâs team total was a 297.
The first day round total was good enough for a second place finish in conference behind conference champion El Dorado, who shot a 289 as a team.
On the second day, Lile shot a 85, Lipinski shot a 89, and Payne shot a 95.
