Willie Rubin Richmond

August 29, 2011

Willie Rubin Richmond,66, of Benton, passed away Saturday, August 27.  He was born September 21, 1944 in Benton.  Mr. Richmond was retired from Alcoa and a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fait and Josephine Richmond; step-son, Don E. Leslie and two brothers, Curtis and Ray Richmond.
 

John Wesley Prickett

John Wesley Prickett, 80, of Bryant, died Friday August 26.
He was born March 30, 1931 in Bryant.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Wesley Prickett and Fay Rowland Prickett of Bryant; and his brother Max Prickett.
He graduated from Bryant High School in 1949 and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1956. John was an avid baseball player in his youth with The Bryant Rebels and contracted to play professional baseball in Greenville, Mississippi in the Cotton States League from 1950 to 1953. He was a U.S Army Veteran.

Parker returns as Cards romp in scrimmage

HASKELL — The Harmony Grove Cardinals heading into their second season as a football team. With a finishing record of 2-8 last season, including blow-out wins over Poyen and Cutter Morning Star, the Cardinals are looking to double their wins and try to stun some teams in 2011.
The preseason for the Cardinals ended on Thursday with a three team scrimmage at Cardinal Stadium. With Woodlawn and Cutter Morning Star participating, the Cardinals looked to get some much needed work in. That's exactly what they did.

Neathery: 'We are still a little sloppy'

The Benton Panthers finished off their preseason on a little bit of a shaky note heading into the final week of preparation before the 2011 season. Head coach Scott Neathery played his starters for only one half against Malvern on Tuesday. After playing two 15 minute quarters, the Panthers and Leopards were knotted up at 10-10. Benton could have scored more with a little more focus on the field.
“We are still a little sloppy,” Neathery said. “We still need to polish up.”

Benton golf teams finish second at Sheridan tourney

The Benton girls and boys golf team finish second out of four teams at a nine hole tournament at Sheridan.
For the girls, Grace Lile shot a 48, Kaylen Presnall shot a 50, Braxton Chumley shot a 52, Kayla Payne shot a 54 and Karli Lipinski shot a 57.
They girls finished second to Lake Hamilton, who shot a 148 as a team. Benton shot a 150 and Sheridan shot a 157.
For Sheridan, Brooke McMellan shot a 46, Camden Nutt shot a 53 and Judy Brown shot a 58.
“We just got to get a couple girls down there in the 40s,” coach Chad Pitts said.

Cliff’Don Braydon Raper

Cliff’Don Braydon Raper, infant son of Casey Don and Re’Becca Jean Skeen Raper, of Texarkana, Arkansas died August 19, in a local hospital.

Cliff’Don was born August 19, 2011, in Texarkana, Texas.

Bryant, Pine Bluff scrimmage postponed

BRYANT — At the 2011 Salt Bowl Press conference, Bryant head coach Paul Calley said the Hornets would be utilizing more of a passing game than what some fans might be accustomed to.
And in Monday’s scrimmage against Pine Bluff, the Hornets stayed true to his word as they marched down the field in their opening drive for a touchdown.
“We utilized that short passing game,” Calley said over the phone Tuesday morning.

George Carroll Dicus

George Carroll Dicus, 74, of Benton passed away Monday, August 22, after a long illness and surrounded by his adoring family who lovingly cared for him in his final months. George was born May 19, 1937 in Little Rock, the son of the late Lonnie and Audrey Dicus.

Stephen Richard Lentz

Stephen Richard Lentz, 67, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 20, at his home in Rowlett, Texas, after a lengthy illness.  He was born July 20, 1944, in Sandusky, OH, to the late Ralph Frederick and Constance Joan Camp Lentz.  He was a graduate of Ohio University and was employed by AT&T/Lucent for 34 years.
 
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary Lentz and step-daughter, Kelley Page.
  

Walter C. Brannon, Jr.

Walter C. Brannon, Jr., 59, of Hot Springs passed away November 13, 2010.  He was born June 14, 1951 in Paragould to W.C., Sr. and Louise Brannon.  Walter was predeceased by his parents and son, Trey Brannon.
 
He is survived by two daughters, Ceci McFee of Hot Springs and Angela Niblett; sister, Anna Smith of Benton, six grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
