Jackie Leon Nash

June 10, 2011

Jackie Leon Nash, 64, of Bauxite, passed away June 8. He was born November 24, 1946, in Benton to the late Rodney and Delphine Nash. Jackie was a member of the Benton Seventh Day Adventist Church. 
He is survived by his wife, Pat Nash of Bauxite, sister, Gwen Holiman of Benton and nephew, Wayne Holiman of Benton. 
The graveside service is by Ashby Funeral Home and was today at 10 a.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery with Travis Walker officiating. 
Visitation was held Thursday evening at Ashby Funeral Home.

Gerald W. Riggs

Gerald W. Riggs, 72, of Benton, passed away Thursday, June 9. He was born October 1, 1938, in North Little Rock to the late T.G. Riggs and Margaret Pilkington Riggs. Gerald was a Third Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, member of the Salem Baptist Church and retired from Crow Burlingame.

Pine Bluff Simmons defeats McClendon’s 10-3

Pine Bluff defeated McClendon’s Appliance 10-3 in seven innings Thursday night at Bernard Holland Park. Pine Bluff scored a run in the first, one in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Benton scored a run in the third and two in the sixth. Pine Bluff had 10 runs on eight hits and McClendon’s had three runs on seven hits.
In the first, Ryan Bewley reached on a walk and after a passed ball would later score on a ground out by Levon Steward.

Ruby Lee McCoy

Ruby Lee McCoy, age 87, of Benton, passed away Tuesday, June 7. She was born April 24, 1924, in Newport.  Mrs. McCoy was an active member in the Benton and Bryant Chapters of the Eastern Star. She cherished her close neighbors and her many friends of the Benton Extension Club and Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her parents, Finis and Ila Roberts; husband of 51 years, Jack E. McCoy, Sr. and her son, Jack E. McCoy, Jr. She is survived by her, daughter, Becky L.

Benton Sport Shop defeats Lake Hamilton 12-7

The Benton Sport Shop Legion baseball team defeated Lake Hamilton Tuesday 12-7 at Lake Hamilton High School.
Benton scored seven runs in the first, four in the third and one in the fourth. Lake Hamilton scored a run in the first, three in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth.
Benton had 12 runs on seven hits with three errors and Lake Hamilton had seven runs on seven hits with just one error.
“That first inning was key for us,” manager Johnny Mitchell said. “Their pitcher was throwing a lot of balls and that was what started the game.
“We got base hits at key times.”

Lester Hicks

Lester Hicks, 71, of Fort Smith went to be with the Lord Monday, June 6, 2011, at Sparks Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 11, 1939, in Bauxite, to the late Vern and Gladys Hayes Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a retired gentleman farmer. 
One brother and three sisters preceded him in death. 

Doyle L. “D.L.” Webb

Doyle L. “D.L.” Webb, age 84, entered eternal life on June 4, 2011.  D.L. was born in Malvern, on Aug. 12, 1926, and was the oldest son of A.S. “Red” Webb and Ira Storey Webb.  He was preceded in death by both his parents; his wife of 43 years, Dolores Cornett Webb; his wife of 17 years, Peggy Sutton Webb; and a sister-in-law, Joann Hardin Webb.
He is survived by a brother, Allen Webb and his wife, Gwen; a son, Doyle Webb and his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Candis Webb Williams and her husband, Alan, all of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

James R. Buie

A glad reunion is underway in Heaven as Servant of God and beloved friend of all who knew him, the Rev.James R. Buie, joined those who have gone before him on Thursday evening, June 2, 2011. Those who remain in faith of yet another sweet homecoming include his dear wife, Ms. Evelyn Buie of Malvern; children, Mike and Brenda Carr, and Randy and Janice Moore of Malvern, Gay Dumas and Victor and Marsha Smith of Benton; sisters, Areta Sadler and Martha Ernest; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Karen Kay Yeager Windsor, 40, of Fort Smith, went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 4, 2011, at St. Edward Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was born Dec. 27, 1970, in Harrison, the daughter of Ed and Shirley Brazzeal Yeager.  Karen graduated from Van Buren High School in 1989.  She went on to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.  She graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
