Rachel C. Motz, 85, went to be with her Lord on April 18, in Lakeland, Fla. She was born on Sept 14, 1926 to Dominic and Mary Carriato, in Pittsburgh Penn.
She is preceeded in death by her parents and a son Joseph Michael Motz, brothers, Carman Girlordo, William Girlordo, Joseph Girlordo and Louie Carriato; sisters, Caroline Pesa, Rose Secen and Marge Omasits.

Cancer Forces Bauxite Principal To Retire; Doctors Say Harrell Is Dying

Tall, skinny, and with a little more fragile appearance than normal, Coach Al Harrell set down in the office chair and opened up his heart.
With co-worker and friend Coach Jon Watson by his side, Harrell struggled at times to hold back the tears. After 52 years of living, the man that has dedicated his life to mentoring youth — both as a sports coach and administrator for the Bauxite School District — was told that his body, which began aching severely recently, is dying.

Authorities confirm "no rape" at Bauxite Middle School

After two women told a Little Rock television news station that their children are in danger at the Bauxite Middle School, with one saying that her 13-year-old daughter was raped on campus, authorities are saying otherwise.
"We have been able to confirm through our investigation that there was not a rape (of the student) at the Bauxite Middle School," Lt. Mike Frost of the Saline County Sheriff's Office told The Saline Courier today.

Panthers drop non-conference game, fourth straight

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Benton Panthers stepped out of the 6A South conference and dropped a 9-6 decision to the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats on Wednesday at Vince DeSalvo Stadium at Burns Park. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Panthers after winning 10 in a row.
“We got what we needed to get,” Benton Coach Mark Balisterri said. “I wanted the win, but right now, the most important thing is playing games is a lot better than practicing.”

Martha Jo Masters

Martha Jo Masters, 69, of Paris, Texas went to be with our Lord and savior Saturday, April 28. She was born on March 20,1943 in Soper, Oklahoma to the late Zelmar Claude and Jewel Dale Weems Carlile. She was a self-employed cosmetologist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Ray Masters in March of 1969.

Wanda Sue Gentry

Wanda Sue Gentry, 74 passed away on May 1, at her home in Benton surrounded by her family. Wanda was born on September 23, 1937 in Thornburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Ruth Edna (Bailey) Taylor.

Jerry A. McCormick

Jerry A. McCormick, 67, of Lonsdale, passed away April 30. He was born November 14, 1944 in Hot Springs to Arvell and Mary Eudora Nooner McCormick.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Lou McCormick of Lonsdale, son, Brian McCormick of Fayetteville, daughter, Bethany Carpenter and husband, Jon of Florida, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held 2 p.m, Wednesday, May 2, at 2017 Narrows Road in Lonsdale.
Cremation was through Ashby Funeral Home.

Frances E. Collie

Frances E. Collie, age 95, of Malvern, passed away Monday April 30, at Hot Spring County Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1917 in Hot Spring County to the late William and Alice Davis Hodges. Frances was reared in the Assembly of God faith and worked in housekeeping in a local nursing home. Her loves were her family and her best friend Vernice Taylor. Frances enjoyed gardening and the family said as long as she was “digging in the dirt” she was happy. Family was the most important thing to her and she will be greatly missed.

Free fans available through Benton Utilities Share Program

With summer temperatures already here, there could be an abundance of residents in need of a fan to cool their home, particularly for the elderly.
Because of that, the Benton Utilities Share Program have stocked more than 270 fans that they are ready to distribute "free of charge." Applicants must be a customer of Benton Utilities and participating members of the Share Program, with an annual income not exceeding $25,000.

Picnic and Stumpin' for votes to be held Thursday

The 10th annual Picnic and Stumpin’ for Votes events will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thurs., May 3 on the lawn of the Saline County Courthouse.
A picnic-style lunch will be served, including hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, pasta salad, drinks and dessert.
Additionally, door prizes will be awarded and a silent auction with a number of items from which to bid will be included in the event.
It is also an opportunity to meet local candidates.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling Quinn Lausten at 315-1121 or the Saline County Judge's office at 303-5640.
