Haynes happy with his campaign

Republican candidate for Saline County sheriff Simon Haynes was defeated by opposing GOP candidate Rodney Wright on Tuesday during a runoff election. Despite losing, Haynes said he was happy with his campaign.

"Thanks to my family and my supports for a great run," he said. "I am very proud of the professional and positive campaign that we ran."

Haynes hopes to continue to help the county grow.

Bauxite School District hires new superintendent

The Bauxite School Board has announced that they have hired a new superintendent, Matt Donaghy.

Donaghy was chosen from six people who applied for the position, said Kimberly Arnold, public information director for the Bauxite School District.

Donaghy has served as superintendent in Hazen for seven years and has 18 years of educational experience, Arnold said.

His contract will begin July 1, 2014.

Benton's Pfeiffer goes to Orioles

LITTLE ROCK – Former UALR shortstop Austin Pfeiffer has been selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 27th round on the 2014 MLB Draft. In 2014 Pfeiffer hit .253 with five home runs while starting every one of the Trojans 54 games at shortstop.

“Well the first person to contact me was my mother,” Pfeiffer said about how he found out he had been selected. “She called me and told me the good news shortly before the Orioles contacted me.”
Pfeiffer said the Orioles congratulated him and said they look forward to what he can bring to their organization.
