BATESVILLE — Officials say two melted chocolate bars sent in the mail prompted an evacuation at a Batesville call center.
The Independence County Sheriff's Office says the two king-size Hershey bars were sent to the Access Arkansas call center with no return address. The Independence County Sheriff's Office says the center was evacuated Tuesday morning.
Police, fire and emergency management responded to the scene, as did a U.S. Postal Service inspector who later deemed the envelope safe.
JONESBORO — Arkansas State University will modify helmet decals that honor former player Markel Owens and former equipment manager Barry Weyer after receiving a complaint that the decal in the shape of a cross is a violation of the separation of church and state.
The cross on the back of the helmets has Owens' initials on one side and Weyer's initials on the other.
Four decades ago a fundraiser was started that was intended to raise money to support a new entity in Benton, known then as the Saline County Senior Adult Center.
The project was considered quite successful, but few, if any, involved in that initial effort had any inkling that it would become an annual event that would attract thousands of people to the community year after year.
But that is what happened. It's now a tradition that Old-Fashioned Day will be taking place in Downtown Benton on the second Saturday in October.
