Event set to support Easter Seals

"Rollin' on the River," a benefit for Easter Seals, will take place Saturday, Sept. 6, at Riverside Grocery and Catering, 4444 Highway 5 South in Benton.

The fundraiser is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.

The cost for adults is $15 each and $8 for youngster 6 to 12.

Rick Bellinger, owner of the business, said the meal will include "all you can eat catfish," chicken strips, fried shrimp, french fries, hushpuppies, baked beans, coleslaw, fried apple pies and beverages.

Local church to be host for benefit concert

New Life Church of God in Bauxite will be hosting a fundraising concert at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Juli Busken Amphitheatre in Tyndall Park.

The goal of the event is to raise funds to complete the construction of a new sanctuary.

The church is hoping to raise about $2,000, said Brenda Duff, one of the organizers of the event.

During the concert, the church band will be performing. Concessions including funnels cakes, fresh lemonade, hot dogs and nachos will be sold.

A bouncy house will be available for children, Duff said.

Hit-and-run claims life of Traskwood woman

A Traskwood woman died of injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident in Little Rock on Thursday afternoon and Deonte Jones, 18, of Little Rock has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Heather Cater, 22, was struck by Jones who was allegedly driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe being pursued by Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies through parking lots on South University Road.

Cater had finished her shift at work and was standing beside her vehicle, speaking with co-workers, at the time of the incident.

•A man on South Border Street reported his all-terrain vehicle and utility trailer were stolen.
