Benton Utilities to amend water installation fees

June 4, 2014

Benton Public Utilities Commission met Monday night to amend the customer service rules and regulations ordinance.

This ordinance was discussed previously at the commission's May 5 and was brought to the City Council on May 12 to be heard on its first reading.

The ordinance would raise the fees associated with installing water meters. However, the council was unwilling to approve a fee increase at that time.

Nearly 1,100 cast ballots on first day

June 4, 2014

Saline County Clerk Doug Curtis reported that the first day of early voting in the Republican preferential primary runoff election brought some surprises.

"I was predicting a low voter turnout, but it looks like I was wrong," Curtis said. "And this is one time I'm thrilled to be wrong."

The total who voted Tuesday came to 1,073, Curtis said.

Of that number, 677 cast ballots at the Vote Here Building in Benton; 170 at Grace Church in Bryant; 196 at Summit Bank in Hot Springs Village; and 30 at the East End Fire Station.

Early voting is continuing today, Curtis noted.
