LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Republican gubernatorial hopeful Asa Hutchinson on Monday said he'd push forArkansas to join a lawsuit challenging the federal government's proposed new rules for power-plant pollution, limits that he says threaten the state's ability to create new jobs.
The Benton Police Department has a new badge that is currently being issued to all officers.
According to Lt. Kevin Russell, public information officer for the department, it was decided in the spring to start working on a new badge design to replace the generic shields that had been in use for decades.
The new design, unveiled Monday, features the Saline County Courthouse, which Russell said is "one of the most iconic and long-standing symbols in the area."
Saline County Assessor Jim Crawford spoke only briefly Monday night at the conclusion of a joint meeting of two Quorum Court committees, but his words brought a positive message about the county's growth and subsequent increased tax base.
The information Crawford presented is included in the annual abstract required of the county assessor's office.
"That abstract reflects a $1.6 billion total assessed value for all taxable property in Saline County, which is an increase of $60 million over last year," Crawford said.
Deborah Purifoy, who had sued the city of Bauxite, Bauxite Mayor Johnny McMahan and police officials, says she is disappointed that the court recently dismissed her suit.
In Purifoy's suit, she alleged that she was mistreated in 2010 when Michael Turner, who was working as a Bauxite police officer, responded to a disturbance at the home of Gary and Peggy Hula, who were neighbors of Purifoy.
