BENTON – Despite walking 10 Little Rock Vipers on Wednesday night, the Benton McClendon’s came away with a 9-2 victory at Bernard Holland Park in American Legion action. The game was originally supposed to be played at Gary Hogan Field (UALR) in Little Rock, but the site changed and the start time moved from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Theresia Joyce Harris Baker, age 74, of Benton passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
She was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Benton.
Joyce was a retired floral designer and worked with the Mission Builders for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ottis and Jewell Richmond Harris.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Baker, Benton; a stepson, Tracy A. Baker of Benton; two stepdaughters, Shari Moser of Batesville and Lisa Still of Benton; a brother, Jerry Harris of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Agriculture industry seeks to create right to farm

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — In the nation's agricultural heartland, farming is more than a multibillion-dollar industry that feeds the world. It could be on track to become a right, written into law alongside the freedom of speech and religion.

Some powerful agriculture interests want to declare farming a right at the state level as part of a wider campaign to fortify the ag industry against crusades by animal-welfare activists and opponents of genetically modified crops.
