Rosco Eugene â€śGeneâ€ť Jones, 83, of Benton, passed away August 10, 2014.Â He was born July 2, 1931 in West Plains, Missouri to the late Sterling Rosco and Amy Edna Elliott Jones.Â Gene was the owner and operator of Gene Jones Wrecker Service and Body Shop in Benton for well over 30 years.Â He retired in 1993 and enjoyed working on lawn care equipment and spending time with family and friends.Â Gene always had a joke to tell.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Troyce Ann Thornelle and Frances Louise Robinson, brother, Bobby Jones.
Joe Bob Niccum, 57 of Haskell passed away August 9, 2014. Mr. Niccum was born June 25, 1957 to Bobby and Glenda (Ease) Niccum.
He loved playing drums, guitar and singing in church and listening to gospel music. He collected model cars and also enjoyed watching Duck Dynasty. He had a big heart in helping many, which included taking in numerous young people and homeless. Joe never met a stranger. Joe Bob was a U.S Veteren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother; Curtis Niccum.
Michael L. Hill, 57, died on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home in Bryant.Â Michael was born on September 5, 1956 to the late Nettie Mauldin and late Leroy Hill of Benton.Â He was an Army Veteran, worked for the Veteranâ€™s Administration and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bryant.
From Aug. 15 through Sept. 1, the Arkansas State Police and the Benton Police Department will be cracking down on drunk drivers.
This crackdown is part of the nationwide campaign "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."
In 2012, approximately 10,300 were killed in drunk-driving crashes and during Labor Day weekend almost 40 percent of all traffic fatalities involved drunk driving, according to the Arkansas State Police.
