Searchers find bodies of Arkansas man, infant son

DANVILLE — A four-day search for an Arkansas man and his 10-month-old son came to a grim end Tuesday as authorities discovered their bodies in a remote area of the Ouachita Mountains, authorities said Tuesday.

Brooke Floyd, who was the wife of Brian Floyd and mother of Harper Floyd, remained in jail Tuesday on a preliminary charge of endangering the welfare of a minor. She was seen with her husband and son on Friday morning, hours before she was found wandering alone on a remote road in the area, which is about 80 miles west of Little Rock.

Filing for municipal positions continues

A total of 29 candidates have filed as candidates for municipal and county offices since the filing period opened on Friday, July 25.

Nineteen individuals filed on opening day, eight candidates filed the second day and two more filed on the third day.

Candidates may continue to file through noon on Aug. 15.

In Bryant, the race for mayor has drawn two candidates — Alderman Adrian Henley, who filed on July 29, and Alderman Randy Cox, who filed July 25.

Mayor Jill Dabbs has not filed for re-election, but previously announced she would be seeking another term.

Benton Board approves new personnel, job changes

When the 2014-15 school term opens in the Benton School District, a number of new faces will be among the faculty at various schools along with several familiar faces in different positions.

A list of the new employees was included in the Benton School Board members' packet in a recent meeting. The personnel, including several who have been recognized previously, are:

•Mark McDougal, assistant superintendent for CTE/academic services.
•Michael Armstrong, chief financial officer.
•Randy McFarlin, athletic director.
•Steve Quinn, principal, Benton Middle School.
