GAZA CITY, Gaza City (AP) â€” A senior Hamas official told supporters at a Gaza City rally on Thursday that the war with Israel won't be over until the group's demands for a lifting of the Gaza blockade are met, insisting that its fighters would never give up their arms.
"Our fingers are on the trigger and our rockets are trained at Tel Aviv," the official, Mushir al-Masri said, as Egypt struggled to broker a lasting truce between Israel and Hamas, with an Egyptian official saying that Gaza-based militants were refusing to compromise.
LITTLE ROCK â€” Arkansas officials asked a federal judge and the state Supreme Court Wednesday to suspend lawsuits challenging the state's gay marriage ban while a similar case is pending before the nation's highest court.
The attorney general's office filed a motion asking U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker to stay the proceedings in the lawsuit filed by two same-sex couples challenging a 2004 constitutional amendment and earlier state law banning gay marriage. The AG's office later filed a similar motion before the state Supreme Court, which is also weighing the state's ban.
Several special observances and events will be included at the upcoming Saline County Fair.
The fair, scheduled Sept. 2-6, will be based on the theme "Blue jeans and Country Dreams."
Mollie Wright, representing the county fair association, said Thursday is designated as Senior Citizens Day. Lunch will be served to seniors at 11 a.m.
School Day is scheduled Friday, at which time lunch will be fed to all special needs children from the area schools. On Saturday 4-H Club members will be the special guests.
For the third time, the city of Bryant's parks department and Bryant School District have partnered to obtain a special joint use agreement grant through the Arkansas Department of Education.
Pending Bryant School Board approval, the $9,700 grant will be used to purchase youth volleyball equipment to be used jointly by both organizations on school property at Hurricane Creek Elementary School beginning in the fall of 2014.
