John Hunter Ruff passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013.Â He was born Oct. 19, 1980, to Tami and Drew Ruff in Little Rock.Â Hunter was a devoted son and brother, a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, attended Harmony Grove High School, and worked diligently at a young age for the family-owned Tastee Freez, later taking on a management role. He often fondly spoke about his many years there and the friendships he formed during that significant period of his life.
Mary L. â€śWeggieâ€ť Russell, 58, of Benton died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013. She was born Jan. 31, 1955, in Benton. Mary was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Maxwell Denley and Ruby Marie Smith Denley; and two brothers, Donald Lee Denley and James Logan Denley.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Russell of Benton; two sons, Mark Alan Russell and Luke Adam Russell, both of Benton; a daughter, Kelly Shay Chapman of Benton; a half-brother, Tommy Brotherton of Poyen; a sister, Helen Wyble of Booneville, Mo.; and two granddaughters.
Mary J. Montalvo, age 61, of Benton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrigâ€™s disease. She was born Oct. 13, 1952 in Little Rock, AR to Joe and Uldine Herring. Mary was a graduate of Benton High School Class of 1971 and was employed at Smith Caldwell Drug for over 15 years. She was an active member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church where she taught AWANA. She was preceded in death by her father and her late husband, Daryl L. Wells.
Shirley M. Butzlaff, 86, of Bryant went to be with her Lord on Nov.15, 2013.Â She was born on Nov. 4, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.Â Shirley was a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.Â She was a mother and homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening, shopping, eating out, and cooking for her grandchildren.Â
On November 14, 2013, Jesus received a "big hug" when Joyce Evelyn Clark, 89, went to be with the Lord.Â She was born to Saline Cairo and Ruth Griffin on May 14, 1924 in Kingsland.Â Evelyn was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother.Â Her family always came first; she loved doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Â She was a great cook and enjoyed family get togethers.Â Evelyn was a member ofÂ First Baptist Church in Benton and enjoyed fellowship with her Sunday School class.Â
Carrie Nell Burks, 92, Warren, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Chapel Woods Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Tom Burks and Lillie Endsley Burks. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a longtime beautician and started Carrie Nells Beauty Shop in Warren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A Burks, whom she married in 1936; he died in 1973. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Joe Burks, Preston Burks, Calvin Burks, Travis Burks; and a sister. Ruthie Mae Childress.
Frances Estelle Chandler, 78, of Haskell passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013. at Arbor Oaks Health and Rehab Center.
She was born Feb. 25, 1935, the daughter of Grover and Stella Downs Gibbs. She retired from Benton Services Center after working 33 years as a nurse's Aaide.Â She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lawrence and Bobby Gibbs; her sisters, Marguerite Black and Thelma Cowger.
The results of a poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports was released Nov. 18.
Two-out-of-three Americans consider themselves regular alcohol drinkers. They're almost evenly divided between those who drink for social reasons and those who drink because they enjoy it.
But there's a few surprises in what America thinks about drinking:
â€˘ Whites are more likely to say they enjoy drinking, while blacks and other minorities are more likely to say they drink to be sociable.
Myra Lee Pritchett, 83, of Alexander went to be with the Lord on Nov. 12, 2013.
She was a devoted wife of 63 years to Col. C.A. "Bud" Pritchett Jr., a beloved mother, and an extraordinary woman. God blessed her with so many talents, which she graciously shared throughout her lifetime as an Army wife for 30 years and a member of the Avilla community for over 33 years.
A private service is planned.

Rachel Simmons Smith, 93, of Benton passed away on Nov. 12, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born to the late David and Flora Simmons in Sikeston, Mo.
Rachel enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in Missouri.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.
