Jenny Bridges Skorupa

June 3, 2013

Jenny Bridges Skorupa, age 53, of Bryant went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2013m at St. Vincent’s Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was born Sept. 3, 1959, at Millington Naval Air Station in Millington, Tenn., to the late Joseph Kindell Bridges and Franca Redini Bridges. She was a special education teacher with the Bryant School District for 20 years and a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Bryant. She loved scrapbooking and making cards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Mark Skorupa.

Paula Sue Smith

June 3, 2013

Paula Sue Smith passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at the age of 60. 
She lived most of her life in Saline County where she was loved by family and friends.
Paula was a member of North Bryant Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Erin Leah Keim; her parents, John L. and Mary Lou Smith; and a brother, (John) Leroy Smith Jr. All are of Saline County.

Rex Carles Rasberry

Rex Carles Rasberry, age 73, of Benton passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born Sept. 24, 1939m in Senath, Mo., to the late Willie T. Rasberry and Violet M. Whitlock Rasberry. 
Mr. Rasberry was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.  He retired from Falcon Jet after 26 years, where he started the screen printing department and worked in the planning department. He was a former officer with the Newport Police Department, and was a radio announcer.

Boil order lifted in Shannon Hills

The boil order issued for residents in areas of Shannon Hills has been lifted.

PREVIOUS STORY:
A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for residents of the city of Shannon Hills living in the area located west of Otter Creek to Vimy Ridge Road.
A water main break at the corner of Clayton and Donnie drives is the reason for the boil order, according to David Passmore, public works manager.

A Prattsville man died Thursday night while driving on Arkansas 190, south of Tull.
Authorities said a tree uprooted by high winds during a thunderstorm fell onto his vehicle.
Authorities have not released a positive identification of the victim.

FAYETTEVILLE -  Trent Daniel repeatedly  represented Bryant and  never opposed Bryant. 
Until perhaps  Friday  night in Manhattan, Kan. For Daniel would be pitching against  Bryant should the Arkansas Razorbacks summon their senior southpaw native son of Bryant, Ark., to relieve vs.  Bryant University in the  first round of the four-team, double-elimination  Manhattan  Baseball Regional.
“I’ve gotten a couple of jokes from my teammates,” Daniel said. “ It’s kind of funny being from Bryant and playing a team called Bryant, I guess.”

Power outage causes delay in Saline Courier press time

Due to the severe storms that pushed through Saline County Thursday night, the Courier production facility was without power Friday morning. This will result in late delivery of Friday’s edition. The Courier would like to thank Benton Utilities for getting restoring power to our press facility on Friday morning. Press times were expected to be approximately 90 minutes late for Friday’s edition.

WALDRON — Forecasters warned that large hail and more tornadoes could strafe parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri on Friday, a day after powerful storms and floods killed at least three people in the storm-weary region.
Up to a dozen tornadoes touched down in mostly rural parts of Arkansas on Thursday, as well as one in Illinois and three in Oklahoma.
