It took another election, but finally all of the municipal positions in Saline County have been decided.
In Tuesday's runoff election, Benton Alderman Brad Moore won a fifth term on the Benton City Council by defeating David Sparks in the race for the Ward 4, Position 1 seat on the 10-member panel.
Unofficial tallies from County Clerk Linda Montalvo's office gave Moore 201 votes to 117 for Sparks. Those numbers represented 63.21 percent for Moore and 36.79 percent for Sparks.
A jury trial for an Arkansan accused of defrauding more than $40,000 from the city of Bryant was scheduled to take place on Dec. 5.
However, on Monday, Saline County Circuit Judge Robert Herzfeld approved a motion from attorney Parker Jones to continue the trial to 9 a.m. on March 26 and 27.
Jones is serving as legal counsel for 38-year-old Christopher Dwayne Barnes, who is facing a charge of theft of property in Saline County.
A registered sex offender living near two day-care centers was arrested on Nov. 20, authorities said.
Lt. Kevin Russell, public information officer for the Benton Police Department, said 48-year-old William Marsh is a convicted Level 3 sex offender and was charged with failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements.
Russell said that detectives had received information that Marsh wasnâ€™t in compliance of his release terms by living at an unregistered address in Benton.
A special holiday event is scheduled Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Royal Theatre in Downtown Benton.
The event will feature Oksana Pavilionis of Ovation Music Academy and others from her studio.
In addition to Pavilionis on 7-strings electric violin, performers will include Slavek Bolubah on drums and Brian Hamby on organ and piano.
Guest vocal artists also will be included in the program that will include Christmas selections as well as other holiday music.
Pavilionis said this will be "an exciting concert that will bring a lot of holiday energy and joy to our listeners."

Benton City Council met a critical deadline Monday night in approving a new power supply agreement that will result in significant savings to the city while ensuring delivery of electrical power to Benton Utilities customers for years to come.
