Noel's future was in doubt.
The victim of a hit-and-run driver, the elderly beagle faced uncertain days because of what was believed to be a broken leg.
After a full examination, one bit of good news emerged. The leg wasn't broken, but damage had been done to the muscles and ligaments. Following a period of rest, veterinarians expected her to be as good as new.
Noel faced a much more serious problem: She was homeless. However, thanks to the giving hearts of many people, she has found refuge with a Saline County couple.
It's been about six weeks since Morris King fell off the roof of his house and ended up in the intensive care unit at St. Vincent Infirmary Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.
The 82-year-old man's fall necessitated brain surgery, and doctors were doubtful that he would recover.
King fell through the acrylic covering over the deck at his home in Haskell and landed on a metal table, which bent under his weight, said his wife, Geraldine.
Benton and Bryant city offices will resume business today, although they opened late because of possible issues having to do with the winter storm that hit the county Tuesday.
The Bryant Development Review Committee meeting originally set for today has been rescheduled for next week.
The Bryant City Council has scheduled a special meeting for next week.
There is a community services meeting in Benton scheduled for Jan. 1 at 6 p.m. A civil service commission meeting is scheduled for Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
In the aftermath of the winter storm that struck Christmas day, thousands of Saline County residents still do not have electricity in their homes.
According to reports from Entergy Arkansas, 13,919 customers in Saline County are still without power, as of 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
That number is down from 16,220 at the peak of the crisis. Nearly 4,000 workers are joining Entergy efforts to restore electricity around the state, according to the Entergy website.
