Dr. Cheryl Schmidt was recently inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in a ceremony conducted in Washington, D.C.
Schmidt's sponsors described her as "a contemporary pioneer in preparation for disasters."
In her role as the national lead and subject matter expert for nursing education for the American Red Cross, Dr. Schmidt led a team of Red Cross colleagues in developing and pilot-testing a web-enhanced course that can be taught in any nursing program to prepare nursing students to serve as volunteers in Red Cross disaster shelters.
There weren't many dry eyes when Benton Police Captain Roger Gaither said his goodbyes on Friday at Benton Municipal Complex.
At least in the public eye, the 33-year law enforcement veteran isn't known for showing emotion. But as he approached the podium to say a few words, the 55-year-old Gaither could no longer hold back the tears.
