Mattingly gives 'state of the city' address

Benton Mayor David Mattingly spoke to Benton City
Council members and residents during his annual "state of the city" address Monday night.
Mattingly cited several achievements and notable events from 2011 that will impact the future of the city.

Nix announces candidacy for state representative

Former state Rep. Barbara Nix has announced her candidacy for the position she held from 2009 to 2011. Nix is seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for the District 28 seat in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
Nix is seeking the position currently held by state Rep. Kim Hammer, a Republican.
While serving in the Arkansas Legislature, Nix served on the House Transportation, City, County, Local Government, and Audit committees. She co-chaired the Legislative Task Force on Sustainable Building and Design Practices and was reappointed to the task force where she currently serves.

Continuance accepted for Wright, Terry cases

The defense for an admitted Saline County murderer has requested a gag order for media, law enforcement and attorneys and also has filed for a continuance in her case.
Saline County Circuit Judge Gary Arnold decided to review articles from The Saline Courier before making a decision concerning a gag order on the media. Arnold, who has never invoked a gag order for media in the past, said he would announce his decision at a later time.

Rotary Club of Bryant serves the community

The Rotary Club of Bryant is an organization of business and professional leaders who volunteer their time, talents and resources to serve Bryant and the world.
According to Stephen Kincaid, club administrator, the main benefit of joining the Rotary is being able to hep serve the needs of the community. It also provides a networking opportunity.
The Bryant chapter is instrumental in facilitating events such as the Starlight Gala for the Boys and Girls Club and partners with the Bryant School District to coordinate the annual Dash for a Difference 5k fundraiser.
