In the aftermath of the winter storm that struck Christmas day, thousands of Saline County residents still do not have electricity in their homes.
According to reports from Entergy Arkansas, 13,919 customers in Saline County are still without power, as of 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
That number is down from 16,220 at the peak of the crisis. Nearly 4,000 workers are joining Entergy efforts to restore electricity around the state, according to the Entergy website.
Entergy/Benton Utilities customers may report an outage by calling 501-776-5931 or 1-800-9OUTAGE.
Once again, the Elf Club at Benton Middle School came through in a big way to help children who otherwise would face a bleak holiday.
Starting a year ago, the students sponsored projects to raise money for the annual toy drive that benefits hundreds of local families.
And the sponsoring organization, Saline County Kiwanis Club, say it's one of the most rewarding projects they have ever been involved in.
The Christmas holiday season is often referred to as the season of giving. As 58-year-old Derrell Hill is confined to a bed at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, family and friends pray there are enough giving people to help fund a liver transplant for the Saline County native.
"During this difficult time, he spends as much time as possible with his six children, 10 grandchildren and other family and friends who all means so much to him," a family member said.
