There are many things a boy could ask for on his eighth birthday.
Store shelves these days are packed with the newest bigger, better toys and gaming systems. The age that children request their own computer and cell phone is getting younger every year.
"Everyone kept asking me what to get Cameron for his birthday. I told them I didn't know, but I would find out," said Lori Terrell about her son.
Cameron, a sixth-grader at Benton Middle School, had not been helpful with clues of any kind. "I really couldn't think of anything I wanted," said Cameron. "I thought I had too much stuff already."
Then, on the way to school one morning, Cameron made a decision. "I know what I want," he said to his mother. "I want a pair of shoes so I can give them to someone who needs them."

An Alexander police officer has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady said.
Nancy Cummings is expected to make her first appearance in Benton District Court at 10 a.m. Friday. The arrest stems from the Sept. 8, 2012 shooting death of then 30-year-old Carleton Wallace of Bryant. Cummings claimed that she noticed Wallace walking along Brookwood St. with a pistol tucked into the waistband of his pants.
An ordinance setting limitations on multifamily housing in Bryant has been drafted and is likely to be presented at the Jan. 31 City Council meeting.
Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs has requested a special meeting with the Planning Commission to discuss the ordinance prior to the scheduled City Council meeting. Procedure calls for the commission to recommend the ordinance to council.
Dabbs is requesting the council hear it on first reading and then "let it sit" until the February meeting, leaving time for developers, residents and City Council members to examine the ordinance.
