Ark. proposed steel mill lining up customers

LITTLE ROCK — Financing for a $1.1 billion steel mill planned for northeast Arkansas expects to be wrapped up by the end of the year, but until then backers will be lining up customers and suppliers.

The Big River Steel plant, which is projected to employ more than 500 people, recently was approved for an air quality permit from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, pending resolution of any objections that are due before mid-October.

Congo Masonic Lodge all-you-can-eat fish fry set for Saturday

The monthly Congo Masonic Lodge all-you-can-eat fish fry is set for Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.
The lodge is located at the corner of Steel Bridge and Thompson Dairy Road.
American-raised catfish, homemade hushpuppies, beans with ham, river-bank-fried taters and more will be served, according to the lodge.
Prices are $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 9 to 12. Children ages 8 and under are free.
The fish fry will be the last Saturday of each month, April through October.
Money raised goes to area charities, according to the lodge. The public is invited.

Civil War dancing tonight

September 23, 2013

Civil War dances of the time period will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at Herzfeld Library in Benton. The Historic Washington Dancers from Old Washington will perform such dances as the Virginia Reel and other Civil-War-period dances. 
The dancers will be dressed in Civil War period costume.
