City mourns the passing of Mrs. Florrie Lyle, age 100

Florrie Deen Wakenight Lyle saw a century of change in her full life.
The retired Benton teacher, who was in her 101st year, died Tuesday, March 4, at Saline Memorial Hospital.
Lynda Hollenbeck has a tribute to Mrs. Lyle in the March 5 edition of The Saline Courier.

Arkansas compromise Medicaid expansion stays alive

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas' first-in-the-nation plan that uses Medicaid funds to buy private insurance for the poor survived an effort to defund it Tuesday, as lawmakers gave final approval to continue a program that has extended health coverage to nearly 94,000 people.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS: Benton, Bryant districts closed Tuesday

According to multiple reports, Benton and Bryant school districts will be closed tomorrow. Both districts, along with Harmony Grove and Bauxite, were closed Monday after winter storms dumped freezing rain and sleet on Central Arkansas on Sunday.
