The cross on the back of the helmets has Owens' initials on one side and Weyer's initials on the other.

Old-Fashioned Day to mark 40 years

September 11, 2014

Four decades ago a fundraiser was started that was intended to raise money to support a new entity in Benton, known then as the Saline County Senior Adult Center.

The project was considered quite successful, but few, if any, involved in that initial effort had any inkling that it would become an annual event that would attract thousands of people to the community year after year.

But that is what happened. It's now a tradition that Old-Fashioned Day will be taking place in Downtown Benton on the second Saturday in October.

Because of today's inclement weather, Saline Memorial Health Foundations' Gathering on the Greens fundraiser scheduled tonight is being postponed.

The event has been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at Hurricane Golf and Country Club in Bryant.

Tickets for Gathering on the Greens and a purse/yeti cooler raffle will be available for purchase in the next two weeks, said Rebecca Jones, director of marketing and community relations.
