County unveils maps detailing potential liquor store areas

Under the guidance of Gary Ballard, the Saline County Assessor’s office has released an unofficial map of locations where liquor stores could be placed in Saline County.

The map details where churches and schools are located and the 1,000-foot radius that prevents a liquor store from being placed.

According to the map, the best possible locations for liquor stores will be along Military Road in Benton.

Twenty-one liquor stores could soon be a reality for the county since voters decided to turn the county wet during November’s general election.

Annual ‘Shop With Our Cops’ event set Tuesday

Law enforcement officers from Saline County will be participating in their annual “Shop With Our Cops” even on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Benton Walmart Supercenter. The program started in 1998 by the Saline County Chaplains Association in conjunction with local police agencies.

Officers participating this year will be from Alexander, Arkansas Health Center, Bauxite, Benton, Haskell, Shannon Hills, Saline County Sheriff’s Office and Traskwood.

Glen Rose Board of Ed work session Thursday

The Glen Rose School Board of Education will meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at Family Farm for a work session involving long-term planning and a discussion of the district's mission statement.
No board action will be taken.
