'Take Back' event nets 3.5 tons of medication

In the past 10 years, law enforcement agencies in Saline County have collected more than three and a half tons of prescription medication because of the Operation Medicine Cabinet X drug take-back events.

Benton Police Department, along with the Alexander Police Department and the Haskell Police Department, hosted a drug take-back event on Sept. 27 in conjunction with the 9th National Drug Take Back Day.

Dog Attack Verdict: Guilty; Mom, daughter in HSV case receive sentence

A mother and daughter, Brande Coy and Emily Coy, charged in connection with the fatal dog attack of a Hot Springs Village woman were found guilty of misdemeanors Wednesday evening at the close of a three-day trial in Saline County Circuit Court.

Horseshoe competition, car ride raffle planned for festival

Wade Marshall of the Benton Fire Department and a member of the Old-Fashioned Day Planning Committee, is coordinating a horseshoe tournament to be included at the Oct. 11 fundraiser.

The event raises funds for the Benton Senior Wellness and Activity Center.

Those wanting to enter the contest should sign up at the courthouse gazebo starting at 9 a.m. The tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. near the gazebo and is open to anyone who desires to participate.
