Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe visited Everett Buick GMC in Bryant Tuesday to personally congratulate Kayla Henderson of Bryant for winning a Buick Achievers Scholarship.
Henderson will receive $25,000 a year.
August 13th
Dan Jordan, director of student support services for the Benton School District, will receive special recognition tonight in a meeting of the Benton School Board.
Jordan has been named Administrator of the Year by the Arkansas School Personnel Administration. He will be recognized during the Panther Pride presentations at the start of the board meeting.

Team Arkansas competed at International Girl Nationals in Branson, Mo. July 31-Aug. 4, and a little girl from Benton won six awards.
Madison Cunningham, 4, daughter of Becky Cunningham of Benton and granddaughter of Liz Cunningham of Bryant, competed against other girls, ages 0 to 6, from around the country.
Today's THV partnered with United Way to hold a Back-to-School Blitz school supply drive at Bryant Walmart Thursday evening. United Way has hosted school supply drives around Central Arkansas for seven years, but this was the first year United Way has brought the drive to Saline County.
Walmart donated $7,000 worth of school supplies for the cause, and $2,000 worth of supplies were donated by the community, said Denver Landers, public relations director for United Way.
One additional candidate filed for a municipal position Friday, according to Deputy Clerk Darlene Westbrook in Saline County Clerk Freddy Burton's office.
Rob Roedel filed his candidacy for re-election to the Ward 3, Position 2 seat on the Bryant City Council.
The filing period for municipal races opened at 8 a.m. Friday, July 27, and will close at noon Aug. 17.
All municipal positions are nonpartisan and will appear on the ballot in the Nov. 6 general election.
At the close of the day Thursday, the following candidates had filed for the listed municipal races:
BENTON
Lee Crow has announced he is seeking a position on the Bryant City Council this November. He will vie for the Ward 3, Position 1 seat currently held by Adrian Henley.
Crow said he disagrees with Henley’s choice to maintain a website in opposition to the mayor while spearheading a stalled recall effort.

A $50,000 sheriff's bond was set Wednesday for a Bauxite man accused of raping a 16-year-old boy multiple times.
Jonathan Solomon, 20, who is affiliated with the Army National Guard, is facing three counts of rape, three counts of sodomy and terroristic threatening. The victim reportedly told Bauxite police that the sexual abuse began when he was 15.

Greg White, a former Benton alderman, wants to return to the City Council.
White has announced his candidacy for the Ward 1, Position 2 on the council, which he previously held for two terms.
The position currently is held by Alderman Kerry Murphy, who is seeking another term.
In 2010 White chose not to seek another term because of professional obligations.
The book of Job says, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.” That scripture could not be any more heartfelt than it was Wednesday at 4 p.m. The words “He has passed” still ring though my head.
