A Benton woman was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly stealing merchandise at Walgreens.
According to a Benton police report, when Kristen Morris, 34, saw two officers in the store, she allegedly â€śbegan removing (reportedly stolen) items from her purse and placing them on the counter.â€ť Morris also allegedly had drug paraphernalia which contained suspected methamphetamine and marijuana residue in her possession, said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police Department spokesperson.
Morris has been charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and shoplifting.
K9 Jerry Lee with the Saline County Sheriff's Office assisted in arresting a man who has been evading police.
Jason Lewellen, 35, of Hensley was named on an active warrant for violating parole. He has been wanted for approximately one year.
â€śDuring this time, Lewellen had fled from law enforcement on several occasions,â€ť said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriffâ€™s Office spokesperson.
After receiving information about the whereabouts of Jason Lewellan, Patrol Sergeant Raymond Lobbs with the help of his K9 Jerry Lee were able assist in the search for Lewellan.
The Community Service and Animal Control Committee of the Benton City Council is set to meet today at 6 p.m. in the Mayorâ€™s Conference Room at the Benton Municipal Complex.
During the meeting, the committee is scheduled to discuss alcohol sales in the city. The topic was brought before the committee during the December committee meeting when City Attorney Brent Houston presented a proposed set of regulations pertaining to alcohol sales in the city.
