A Saline County Quorum Court committee touched on a fiery topic Monday night — one that has been brought before the justices of the peace several times in the past year — but ultimately backed away from the issue without taking any action.
The Finance and Personnel Committee discussed a proposed ordinance that could have regulated what was determined to be the unsafe discharge of a firearm in a congested area of an unincorporated part of the county.
A Benton police officer who allegedly disregarded a stop sign was struck by another vehicle Sept. 2 at the intersection of Northshore Drive and Alcoa Road.
The officer, John Spatdaro, who was driving a Benton police vehicle at the time of the accident, is currently not placed on administrative leave. The department is reviewing the incident, said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police Department spokesperson.
The Saline County Sheriff's Office investigated the accident.
