Update: Skeletal remains of adult found

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office recovered what is believed to be human skeletal remains in the Sardis community at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators believe the remains that were found approximately 200 feet from the road in a secluded area are those of an adult, said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriff’s Office.
The officers received a tip about the remains from a resident, he said.
“The remains were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for possible positive identification and to determine a cause of death,” he said.

Skeletal remains found in Bauxite

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office found what is thought to be human skeletal remains in Bauxite Wednesday afternoon near Woody Green.

“The remains were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for possible positive identification and to determine a cause of death,” said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

A resident allegedly reported finding the remains, he said.

No other information is available at this time, Courtney said.

Benton schools taking steps to prevent flu

The Benton School District has taken the necessary steps to try to prevent flu cases after a recent increase statewide.

“We have had probably less than 50 district wide,” said Mary Morgan, assistant superintendent for human resources and administration services. “We heard a lot of families had it during the the break.”

Morgan said in order to prevent the disease from spreading the nurses are reminding students of the basics “— get your flu shot, wash your hands, stay home if you’re sick and cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough.”

Police: Girl fabricated kidnapping attempt

The Shannon Hills Police Department spokesperson said a 17-year-old girl allegedly fabricated a story about a possible kidnapping attempt.

In connection with the incident, the girl will be charged with filing a false report, said Assistant Chief Jeremy Brown.

Tuesday, the girl reported an white male attempted to kidnap her shortly after she exited the school bus. Later she admitted to fabricating the story, he said, and was reportedly seeking her father's attention.

Officers were able to view video camera footage from another school bus in the area.
