A local church group will host Loads of Love from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Fun Wash on Edison Street in Benton. The group will bring hundreds of dollars in quarters and offer to pay to wash the laundry of anyone who is there. The group will also cook hotdogs for the patrons.
The fourth annual Peace, Love & 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Run will be this Saturday. The Family Fun Run begins at 7 a.m. at the Benton High School Track, and the 5K run begins at 8 a.m. in front of the Civitan Center in Benton.
The fun run is $15 with a T-shirt and free without a shirt. The 5K run/walk is $25 with a T-shirt.
All race participants are invited to attend a free pasta dinner Friday 5-8 p.m. at the Civitan Center. This is also a chance to pick up your race packet early, said Leigha Jones, community development director for Civitan Services.
Newly updated information at the First Electric website shows outages in the Hwy. 5 area near Hot Springs Village have gone back up to 220 customers.
Information posted at the First Electric Cooperative website indicates that power has been restored to the outage area in Saline County on Hwy. 5 near Hot Springs Village.
A strong cold front is pushing into western Arkansas. Current temperatures include 50 in Hot Springs, 43 in Fort Smith. The current temperature in Benton is 77.
Forecasters expect the potential for storms and rain to continue through midnight.
First Electric Cooperative is reporting 379 power outages in Saline County near Hot Springs Village on Hwy. 5.
The National Weather Service has lifted a thunderstorm warning for Saline County. However, the county is also under a tornado watch until 9 p.m.
At 6 p.m, heavy rains were moving into the Benton area.
The National Weather Service is predicting strong thunderstorms for tonight. There's a 50 percent chance the rain will start this afternoon, according to the NWS website.
The storms are supposed to clear up by Thursday night.
Maintenance work on an Interstate 30 median wall will require a lane closure, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.
The work will require the westbound inside lane of Interstate 30 to be closed between mile markers 139 and 142. Thatâ€™s located from just south of the I-30/I-630 interchange in Little Rock to just south of the I-30/I-40 interchange in North Little Rock. The closures will be Tuesday, April 9th through Wednesday, April 10th, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
The regular meeting of the Shannon Hills city council will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight (April 9) at city hall.
On the agenda are department head reports from various city departments. David Passmore will present information from Public Works. Chief Hale will report on the Police Department. Mel Aldridge will present information from the Fire Department.
Under old business, aldermen will hear an update on a grant for the city park as well as an update regarding drainage improvement projects.
