Shoeboxes of care assembled for children in other countries

November 14, 2014

A group of young friends recently gathered for a party, but it wasn't the usual kind one thinks of when the guests are young and basically carefree.

The party, held at the home of Addison Davis, included first-sixth-grade girls who were participating in an international mission.

Board members of the Saline County Regional Solid Waste Management District officially ended the black box recycling program during a monthly meeting on Wednesday.

“The black boxes were always meant as a temporary solution,” executive director Michael Grappé said. “And now the lifespan of the black boxes is coming to an end.”

The black box program began a little over a year ago as a temporary solution until curbside recycling could come into place.
