Quorum Court OKs grants for community projects in Paron

Two resolutions to benefit the Paron community were approved Tuesday night in a meeting of the Saline County Quorum Court.

One of the grants seeks funding for a volunteer fire association equipment project. The application will be submitted to the Arkansas Rural Development Commission to secure state grant funds in the amount of $38,944 to assist the project and and to authorize the county judge to administer the funding for the project.

BREAKING NEWS: Sheriff's office investigating possible murder in Bauxite

The Saline County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating an alleged homicide that happened Tuesday in Bauxite.

Abel Enriquez, 65, of Bauxite is accused of killing his roommate, Anthony Ballentine, 22, also of Bauxite.

Benton police investigate possible drowning

June 17, 2014

Benton police officers have restricted access to the Saline River near Sunset Lake as they are investigating a possible drowning.

The name of the missing person, an adult man, is currently not being released.

The Benton Fire Department, dive teams from Grant County and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are all on scene, said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police Department spokesperson.

The area around Sunset Lake is still open to the public.
