Bryant School Board approves land sale

June 21, 2014

Bryant School Board has approved the sale of land near Hurricane Creek Elementary for the expansion of Alcoa Road.

The action occurred in a meeting Tuesday night.

Saline County will purchase a small piece of land near Hurricane Creek Elementary from the district for $40,753.19, according to the contract.

This amount will include the needed funds to move the school's electronic gate and sign, said Don McGohan, assistant superintendent.

The Alcoa Road expansion is a shared project involving the cities of Benton and Bryant and the county.

Benton council to hear final reading on eminent domain

The Benton City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting Monday, June 23, to discuss using eminent domain to acquire acquiring necessary land for the Alcoa Road improvement project.

This item has been discussed in three previous meetings including a special meeting that was held on Monday, June 16.

Fundraiser to help Baker family set Tuesday at Chicken Express

A fundraising event to help the family of Michael Ryan Baker with funeral expenses is set for Tuesday, June 24 at Chicken Express in Benton from 6 to 8 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds from food purchased between that time will be donated to the family. Anyone planning to attend must tell the cashier that they are there for the fundraiser.

There will also be a tip jar that will go to the family as well.

Baker, 18, drowned while swimming in the Saline River on Tuesday.
