Benton considering eminent domain to seize property

The Benton City Council will discuss potentially seizing certain property for the Alcoa Road improvement project through eminent domain at the regularly scheduled council meeting on Monday, June 9.

Alderman Charles Cunningham will present the ordinance. Ordinance 25 will authorize the city to seize necessary lands for the Alcoa Road project by eminent domain.

Man arrested, charged with harming children

Saline County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from several other agencies, arrested a man for allegedly using a false identity to contact young children.

Douglas E. Callaway, 47, of Shannon Hills allegedly used a false identity, Billy Thompson, to contact young children on social media sites, said Amanda Best, administrative assistant for the Saline County Sheriff.

Anyone with information about more possible victims in connection with this case should contact Detective R. Schwin at 501-303-5608.

UPDATE: Haskell bear rescued, released in wild

The bear that was found in a tree in Haskell on Thursday was tranquilized and rescued by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
