The 2014 Saline County Fair Association will be offering something new at this year's fair: The first bull riding competition on Thursday evening, Sept 14.
This event is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Thomas Arena at the fairgrounds.
Mollie Wright, a spokesperson for the fair board, said the bull-riding event will "showcase both novice and experienced riders from all over looking to ride a bull."
By a vote of 10-0, the Benton City Council gave its final approval to a planned use development for Longhills Golf Course.
An ordinance to approve the project passed on all three readings after council members voted for an emergency clause in the ordinance.
Lindsey Management submitted a plan to the Benton Planning and Zoning Commission to build 793 housing units contained in 43 complexes in the front nine holes area of the course. A public hearing on the plan, held before a standing-room-only audience, took place Aug. 12 in council chambers at the Benton Municipal Complex.
The Saline County Sheriff's Office has arrested two people in connection with an armed robbery Friday morning at JJ's Truck Stop.
Trent Williams, 23, and Zachary Hattabaugh, 23, both of Malvern, were arrested in Hot Spring County on Friday afternoon, said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.
Williams is accused of entering the store with a pistol and taking an unknown amount of money. Hattabaugh allegedly waited outside the store and drove the "getaway vehicle," Courtney said.
