McMahan responds to dismissal of lawsuit

A lawsuit filed by Bauxite resident Deborah Purifoy against the city of Bauxite, Mayor Johnny McMahan and police officials has been dismissed.

In the complaint, Purifoy alleged that she was mistreated during an incident in 2010.

The dismissal notes that on Sept. 11, 2010, Michael Turner, a defendant in the suit, was working as a Bauxite police officer and was called to the home of Gary and Peggy Hula in response to a domestic disturbance call. Purifoy is a neighbor of the Hulas.

Front entrance to Saline Memorial closed for renovation

The main entrance to Saline Memorial Hospital will be closed beginning this morning for approximately 12 weeks while the area undergoes a planned renovation.
According to Matt Brumley of Saline Memorial Hospital, "We have two alternate entrances, one by the mail lobby elevators and we are also using the health education building entrance. Signage will be placed throughout the hospital to assist visitors. We have also placed information in our local physicians offices."

BREAKING NEWS: Wet/dry vote to be on Saline County ballot in November

An effort by Our Community, Our Dollars to get a wet/dry issue on the Nov. 4 general election ballot has succeeded.

The required number of signatures on a petition to allow the sale and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in Saline County has been met, according to County Clerk Doug Curtis.

Curtis reported late Thursday afternoon that 31,528 signatures were processed and 25,653 were accepted after 5,875 were rejected.

He said 25,580 signatures of registered voters were required to place the measure on the general election ballot.
