BRINKLEY — Delays are expected on parts of Interstate 40 as westbound traffic is reduced to one lane on a nearly 4-mile stretch in eastern Arkansas while crews perform construction work.
The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department says the closure will begin Tuesday and will last about a month, weather permitting. Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between Bayou DeView and the Cache River, or mile markers 205 to 210, as crews reconstruct 3.8 miles of the interstate.
Traffic will be controlled using barrels, a barrier wall and warning signs.
DYESS — Money and memorabilia from Johnny Cash's family and friends have helped historians restore a significant part of the Historic Dyess Colony, a government collective built to pull Depression-era families out of poverty.
The country music icon's boyhood home, along with the colony's former headquarters, will open Saturday to reflect everyday life in a northeast Arkansas community built on once-sunken land.
Approximately four years ago, a group called Saline Crossing Regional Park & Recreational Area was formed with the purpose of saving the Old Saline River Bridge in Benton and creating a public area for residents to enjoy the scenery at the river.
Recently the group dedicated two new amenities at the river that will eventually for the base of expanded recreational activities in the area.
