The filing period for candidates seeking municipal and county offices kicked off Friday.
As of press time, 16 candidates had filed for open positions.
The following filed for positions in Benton:
â€¢Charles F. Cunningham for Ward 2, Position 1 of the Benton City Council.
â€¢Alderman Bill Donnor for Ward 3, Position 1 of the Benton City Council.
â€¢Alderman Brad Moore for Ward 4, Position 1 of the Benton City Council.
â€¢Brent Houston for city attorney.
â€¢Cindy M. Stracener for city clerk.
The following candidates filed for positions in Bryant:
â€¢Randy Cox for mayor.
A man wanted in Bentonville for the murder of his grandmother was arrested in Saline County.
Michael Eugene Conklin, 26, of Bentonville was arrested Friday night and returned to Bentonville, said Lt. Scott Courtney, Saline County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.
The Saline County Sheriff's Office received a tip about Conklin's location from an individual who saw his picture on a newscast, Courtney said.
Conklin has been charged with first-degree murder and theft of property, according to the Benton County Detention Center inmate roster.
The McClellan High School Class of 1974 is searching for former students who graduated in any year during the 1970s for a multi-year reunion. According to Jane Stout, "The grand reunion will have a festival atmosphere, dinner, live music and many surprises." The reunion is scheduled for September 13 at the Castle on Stagecoach Road in Little Rock.
