Gary Garner, a teacher in the Benton School District, has announced his bid for the Ward 3, Position 1 seat on the Benton City Council.
Garner said he "chose Benton to raise my family because I believe it takes a community to raise a family, and this community has made that a great experience.
"I have two sons that have graduated from Benton High school and my other son is currently a senior there," he said. "It has been rewarding to see them grow and mature at our top-notch school district that has always had great test scores."
Marcus Dorsey who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident at Alcoa Exchange in Bryant, will be charged with murder. The victim in the accident died at approximately 10:39 a.m. Friday.
Dorsey allegedly struck Heather Baker, 20, of Benton who was walking toward Target. The victim is not related to Dorsey.
During a bond hearing Friday morning, Judge Mike Robinson set Dorsey's bond at $1 million.
"The only reason I'm going to give you a bond is because the state says I have to," Robinson said.
Bryant police have arrested four people in conjunction with a July 30 home invasion on Center Street.
Travon Lee, 18, Khalil Milton, 18, and two juveniles who are 16 and 17 have been charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, theft of property, aggravated assault, battery and interference with an emergency communication, said Sgt. Todd Crowson, Bryant Police Department spokesperson.
The victim told officers that three men came into her home and held her at gunpoint, Crowson said.
