Black boxes terminated; recycling program to phase out by beginning of 2015

Board members of the Saline County Regional Solid Waste Management District officially ended the black box recycling program during a monthly meeting on Wednesday.

“The black boxes were always meant as a temporary solution,” executive director Michael Grappé said. “And now the lifespan of the black boxes is coming to an end.”

The black box program began a little over a year ago as a temporary solution until curbside recycling could come into place.

2nd complaint filed against Bryant mayor candidate Cox

On Monday a Bryant resident filed a new ethics complaint with the Arkansas Ethics Commission Alderman Randy Cox, who is a candidate for mayor.

Barbara Champagne, who filed the complaint, submitted a previous complaint in October.

In the most recent complaint, Champagne alleges that Cox “has been sloppy and irresponsible in his financial reporting” involving his campaign finances. She acknowledged that there is a $200 error on his financial reports and she calls into question a $1,919.34 deficit that Cox reported.

County animal control tax helps curb over-population

The Humane Society of Saline County makes no secret of its concern about pep over-population and its related mission to get as many dogs and cats sterilized as possible.

Low-cost spay/neuter clinics are held throughout the year for this purpose, but the society now is receiving a boost with the effort through Saline County's voluntary animal control tax.
