Barbershop, gospel music on tap at concert to benefit Safe Haven

Area residents are being offered an evening of musical entertainment while simultaneously supporting a worthy cause.

Two performing groups will be featured in the Saturday, Oct. 11, concert event that will benefit Safe Haven, the local shelter that serves victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Ghosts, ghouls and goblins to be focus of library event

Shelle Stormoe, education coordinator for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, will present “Arkansas’ Haunted History,” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Herzfeld Library in Benton.

The program will explore the ghost stories and folklore associated with historic Arkansas buildings and sites, according to AHPP Director Frances McSwain.

The public is invited to attend the free event.

•A woman at Home Depot reported her credit card was used without her permission.
•Terry Dyess, 55, of Benton received a citation at Walmart for public intoxication.
•A woman on Gibson Street reported the theft of two bicycles from her residence.
•Edith Penny, 46, of Benton was arrested on Denton Street and charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault.
•James McCool, 38, and Jessica Higgins, 28, both of Tull, were arrested on Edison Avenue and charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary.
