Court rules signature count OK on wet/dry issue

Saline County Circuit Judge Grisham Phillips ruled Monday that 38 percent of the qualified electors of Saline County signed a local option petition on a wet/dry issue and therefore the votes cast on this issue will be counted from today's election ballots.

Phillips had previously left this issue undetermined after noting Sept. 10 that 156 of the 25,653 signatures accepted by the Saline County Clerk's Office on a July 31 certification were not valid.

2 Saline residents charged with attempted arson

A man and woman were arrested Sunday in an alleged arson attempt.

Natasha Johnson, 24, of Bryant and Troy Putman, 34, of Benton allegedly attempted to set fire to an individual’s home using a “Molotov cocktail.”
