Former Saline County sheriff Bruce Pennington was taken into custody at Walmart in Benton today. He is facing charges of abuse of public trust and theft of property which are both felonies. He is facing an additional misdemeanor charge for theft of property.
Two other former Saline County Sheriff's Office employees are also facing charges. Former Lt. Mike Frost is facing charges for illegal use of a communication device and delivery of a controlled substance. Jo Nell Mallory is facing charges for abuse of public trust and theft of property.
On 5/12/14, at approximately 12:45 PM, officers with the Benton Police Department responded to a burglary in progress on River Heights Drive. A suspect was seen in the area, but attempts to locate him at the time of the burglary were unsuccessful.
Information obtained by detectives working the case determined the suspect was in the Pulaski County area. This information was passed along to other law enforcement agencies in Central Arkansas, and based on it deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriffâ€™s Office were able to locate the suspect and apprehend him.
Barbara Toney Wheeler went to bed in late March healthy and fit. She set her alarm for her morning job as a caseworker at Timber Ridge Ranch. When she awakened, she fell out of bed, striking her head and fracturing the C4 vertebrae in her neck.
Barbara was a member of the Benton High School Class of 1970. The former homecoming queen now needs the help of her community in order to receive the treatment she needs.
