Battery suspect in custody

Police are no longer searching for a man accused of felony assault.
Trent Duncan surrendered voluntarily at the Saline County Detention Center earlier today.

Local man arrested for possession of stolen vehicle

The Benton Police Department on Friday evening located a vehicle on Interstate 30 that was reported stolen in Little Rock.
Driver Jeremy Holt, 36, was arrested and charged with theft by receiving and driving with a suspended license. Officers also reportedly found a meth pipe in the vehicle, and Holt received an additional charge of drug paraphernalia possession. He also was found to have active felony warrants out of two other police departments, according to a police report on the incident.

Benton PD searching for suspect in felony assault

The Benton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a battery suspect.
Police are encouraging anyone with information on the location of 32-year-old Trent Duncan to contact the Benton Police Department at 501-778-1171 or 501-315-TIPS. Individuals also may send an anonymous tip about his whereabouts to CRIMES (274637), with the keyword BNPD in the body of the text or go to www.crimereports.com to leave a tip.
Police reportedly believe Duncan is still in the Central Arkansas area.

Benton PD arrests theft suspect

A Benton man was arrested Thursday in connection with a string of thefts at local motels.
A motel clerk reportedly told police that the suspect, 26-year-old Brian Byrum, was still at the scene when the Benton Police Department arrived.

Easter egg hunts affected by poor weather projections

The fifth annual Bryant Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt is still set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Alcoa 40 Park, 1110 Shobe Road, but the parks department will be watching the weather and will determine that morning whether to reschedule the event.
If the hunt is rained out, the celebration will be held next Saturday, April 6, and will be relocated to Mills Park.
Sponsored by Bryant Parks and Recreation Department, the event will feature an Easter egg hunt, face painting, bouncy houses, games, prizes and an appearance from the Easter Bunny.
All activities are free to the public.

Walls going up at event center

The first wall of the Benton event center was lifted into place Tuesday morning. Weighing 80,000 lbs., the wall was hoisted by crane and secured by workers from project construction team CDI of Little Rock.

Oaklawn postpones infield activities due to weather

HOT SPRINGS, AR (Thursday, March 21, 2013) – Oaklawn has postponed all Infield activities until Saturday, March 30, including the picnic blanket giveaway, due to the heavy rain and unseasonably cold temperatures in the forecast for this weekend. Rain was scheduled to begin in the Hot Springs area late Thursday afternoon and continue through Saturday with temperatures in the high 40s.

Bryant Easter egg hunts set for next Saturday

The fifth annual Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt in Bryant will be taking place Saturday, March 30, starting at 11 a.m. at Alcoa 40 Park, 1110 Shobe Road.
Sponsored by Bryant Parks and Recreation Department, the event will feature an Easter egg hunt, face painting, bouncy houses, games, prizes and an appearance from the Easter Bunny.

Downtown Benton Easter celebration set Saturday

Preparations are continuing for the annual Easter celebration to be held this coming weekend in Downtown Benton.
The Downtown Benton Association is again hosting the 2013 Saline County Easter Egg Hunt, but residents are reminded that it is being held a week earlier than usual.
All of the are set for Saturday, March 23, coordinator Lisa Baldwin said. Most activities will take place on the lawn of the Saline County Courthouse, she said.

Pope Francis displayed enormous humility when he stood on the balcony of the Vatican this week and broke tradition by asking the more than 150,000 spectators to pray for him and bless him before offering a blessing for them, said the Rev. Father Joseph Ejimofor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton.
Pope Francis also declined to be elevated above the other cardinals in the ceremony and chose the name Francis, which has never been used by a pope before, in honor of St. Francis of Assissi, a lover of the poor.
