2nd reading on domain ordinance heard Monday

Benton City Council met in a special session Monday night to hear the second of three required readings of an eminent domain ordinance related to an Alcoa Road expansion project.

The third and final reading is scheduled for the council's regular meeting on June 23.

City Attorney Brent Houston previously informed the council that an additional six tracts are needed for rights of way for the proposed reconstruction project, bringing the total to 15 properties.

Burglary suspects leave small child in car during break-in

Benton police responded Sunday to Tractor Supply Co. where they found two men who allegedly had committed commercial burglary while leaving a 3-year-old child inside a vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a U-haul truck in the back of the building with merchandise from the business.

2 suspects still loose after robbing Malvern National Bank

June 16, 2014

Monday at approximately 4:16 p.m., officers with the Benton Police Department responded to Malvern National Bank on Military Road on report of a robbery. Upon officers arrival it was determined that an actual robbery had occurred and the two robbers had fled the scene.

The two suspects entered the bank and then demanded money after displaying a pistol toward a clerk. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, both suspects fled the bank on foot traveling toward the direction of Ferguson Drive.
